Kanye West has taken a step back from publicly voicing his political opinions, but now he’s letting the money talk and has donated $150,000 to Jemel Roberson’s family.

The controversial rapper and producer is adamant about uplifting his hometown of Chicago and was compelled to offer charity to the loved ones of the heroic security guard that was shot to death by police after apprehending a gunman while on staff at Manny’s Blue Room.

A Go Fund Me page in Jemel’s honor was originally set up to raise $10,000 to cover his burial expenses, but now donations have exceeded $300,000.

Roberson’s family has filed a $1 million lawsuit and have hired attorney Greg Kulis who made this statement:

“Jemel was trying to save people’s lives. He was working security. A shooting had just taken place inside the establishment. So he was doing his job and holding onto somebody until somebody arrived. And a police officer, it’s our feeling didn’t make the proper assessment and fired and killed Jemel.”

Kanye’s detractors have already questioned his motive and have called the donation a publicity stunt, but this latest act of kindness follows a long list of philanthropic efforts from the talented musician.
